Zurich Classic
So last week was a pretty cool week. Stewark Cink was The RBC Heritage. Now if any of you guys have been following Cink’s recent success he is 47 years old and currently one of two players on the PGA Tour that have more than one win so far this season. The other player is Bryson Dechambeau. On top of Cink’s hot season so far before his win at the Safeway Open he hadn’t won an event since 2009. He went 11 years, over 4,000 days without a win and now he has gotten two wins within 300 days. I really love this kind of stuff because golf comes and goes and for 11 years Cink was just pushing through the drought, being patient and strong. He knew that one day he would win again and now that he got the taste of winning back he’s going to get a bunch more. Not only is Cink winning but last week’s win was incredible. Last week through two rounds Cink was 16 under, shattering the 36 hole record at The RBC Heritage. He finished at 19 under par for the week which sealed his victory. Personally if Cink wins one more time this year he most definitely without question deserves a spot on the Ryder Cup Team. Now I know many people won’t agree, and give arguments like there are better players but Cink is 47 and absolutely destroying the competition. He's playing better than Patrick Cantlay, Rickie Fowler, Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy just to name a few. These are some of the top ranked golfers in the world and they can’t even touch his game right now. Big things are coming for Cink in the future, stay tuned.
This week the PGA Tour heads to New Orleans for a slightly different event. This week is the Zurich Classic, the only team event on the PGA Tour besides the Ryder and Presidents Cup of course. This week players will tee it up with their partners at TPC Louisiana in a combo Four ball, and Foursomes format. For the Four ball portion of the week both teammates will play their own ball and take the best score between the two of them. For the foursome portion of the week players will rotate hitting shots, so one teammate hits the tee shot than the other teammate hits the second shot and so on and so forth. So with that being said there is tons of strategy involved in this format. Players need to work together with their fellow teammates to decide who hits what tee shot based on their skills of shot shape. It's a really fun week to watch because in at a great venue, it's a nice change from stroke play, oh and each team gets to hit their own tee shot with walkout music like at a baseball game. (Mike)
Pick’s of the Week:
Mike: As for picks of the week I’m only going to do the winning pick of the week. So this week my winning team pick goes to Bubba Watson and Scottie Scheffler. First off Bubba is a great partner, he plays extremely aggressive which is huge for fourball. He can play as aggressively as he wants while his partner can take a safer route. On top of that his partner Scottie is playing extremely solid and consistent as of late. This duo has a lot of firepower and I truly believe they will bring the rain this week. Gear up for an epic week. (Mike)
Tyler: My picks for the week are Cam Smith and Marc Leishman. Both of these guys have been playing very well lately and I like that to continue this week. Each guy does not make silly mistakes and can make birdies in flurries. I really like the Aussie duo to come out on top this week. I am also only doing winning picks, but I will mention that the Lanto Griffin and Joel Dahmen duo is who I will be cheering for and will easily be one of the most exciting teams to watch this week. I do not think they will win, but I hope to be proven wrong. (Tyler)
